New report: What climate policies do the public want? A review of recommendations from UK citizens’ assemblies and juries

The UK public are clear about what they want from climate-related policy.

In our new report synthesising the outcomes from over 30 Citizen’s Assemblies and Juries held across the UK between 2019-2023, we find that the public want:– More action on climate, and they support more ambitious policies;– Better public communication and education on climate change;– And other help that makes things simpler, clearer, and easier is supported just as much as financial measures.

The types of policies the public designed in these deliberative processes demonstrate that there is a deep concern about climate change and low trust in the government taking meaningful action.

The report also shows which policies are most supported by the public – these can be considered as ‘low hanging fruit’ and least controversial in implementing, so long as key concerns are taken into account.
